The Tiger Men's soccer team took on intown rival McPherson college last night in a collegiate cup matchup with both teams looking to earn their first victory of the season.
The first half had a lot of action as both teams were able to generate a solid amount of scoring opportunities, but each team ended the half with just 1 shot on goal as several shots from each side were either blocked or missed the net. The teams remained tied at 0-0 going into halftime.
The second half followed the same formula as the first half for the first 25 minutes, a lot of opportunities for both teams but many shots didn't make it on net. Both teams even had shots go off of the crossbar in the second half. It was not until the 70th minute that the first goal was scored of the game by McPherson on a shot with speed from outside the box just underneath the bar. The Tigers had 3 good chances at an equalizer late in the game, including a great header from their leading scorer, Sidney Tippner in the 86th minute but it was saved as the Tigers came up empty handed and lost the tight game 1-0.
The Tigers now sit at 0-5-1 and will look to bounce back at home against Tabor College on Saturday and earn their first win of the season. The game will kickoff at 3:30 and will be streamed on SAC Sports Network.
