Esports Collects First Victory in Central History
McPherson, Kansas April 24, 2020 – The Central Christian College of Kansas Athletic Department is celebrating the first victory for the Esports Program. The new team entered in the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) Overwatch Cup. Overwatch.is an online team based game created by Blizzard Entertainment.
Tigers would open up the first game against UT Dallas' Esports team and would drop the game 2-0. Tigers regrouped in the second round against the Morningside Mustangs and take the second 2-0, collecting their first victory of the season.
Tigers are currently T-3rd (1-1) with 3 points trailing 1st place UT Dallas (2-0) by 3 points thru 2 rounds in Pool #2. Tigers will have 3 more rounds to improve and get into the top 8 spots.
Here's a synopsis of how this tournament and traditional Esports tournaments are structured.
Matches – Each match in the season will be a best of three, with the first team to two wins winning the match. If neither team wins two maps, the team with the most wins will win the match.
- Best of 3 – Each Best-of-3 match will consist of up to three (3) Games on three maps, with the first team to two (2) map wins winning the match.
- The tournament format will be single-elimination bracket. The Championship match (Finals Day 2) will be best-of-5. All other rounds of the tournament will be best-of-3
- Win results in 3 points
The Tiger team consisted of Ben Caron, Joe Cox, Frankie Hernandez and Luke Ingram, along with two pickup players. Tigers were coached by Brandon Terry.
