McPherson, Kansas – The Central Christian eSports team had a historic day after their 3-2 Rocket League victory over Seton Hall University (0-2, 3-5, 2-1, 3-0, 4-3 OT) on October 25th. With a full squad this year, the eSports team has worked diligently as they improve match after match. The team, led by coaches
Doug Vanderhoof and
Brandon Terry, consists of Junior
Ben Caron, and freshmen Conner Cornwell,
Frank Ebert,
Remington Leach, and Johnny Rodriguez.
MATCH SUMMARY
Game 1 – Tigers score 2 goals and hold Seton Hall to 0 goals to take an early 1-0 lead in the best of 5 match.
Game 2 – Both teams go on the offensive as the Tigers score a game high 5 goals in route to a 5-3 victory to increase the match lead to 2-0.
Game 3 – Seton Hall is able to stay alive after putting up 2 goals and holding the Tigers to 1. Match goes to 2-1 in favor of the Tigers.
Game 4 – Seton Hall continues their momentum and blanks the Tigers in game 4 in route to a 3-0 win to even the match at 2-2.
Game 5 – The most exciting game of the match couldn't come at a better time. The Tigers would find themselves down 3-2 with only a couple of minutes left in regulation. The team didn't panic and continued to find opportunities to get the match tied up. In the last seconds and just in the nick of time the Tigers scored the equalizer with under a minute left in regulation. When the clock struck 0:00 the game was at 3-3, leading to the team's first overtime.
After 4 minutes of overtime, the Tigers scored off a rebound from Seton Hall to give them their first ever Rocket League Victory and overtime win. This gave them their first win of the season as they have continued to show improvement throughout the year.
