McPherson, Kan. – January 8, 2024 – Central Christian College athletics director, Kyle Moody, has announced a transition in leadership for the Tiger esports program. Nick Johnson, a graduate of Kansas State University, has been given the reins of the Tiger esports teams, taking over for Brandon Terry, who has coached the Tigers the past four seasons.
Coach Johnson earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from KSU and recently was the Chief Operating Officer for an app company. He grew up in Wamego, Kansas, and has a long history of playing some of the popular esports titles like League of Legends, Call of Duty, and Halo. This will be his first foray into the esports coaching world, but has eight years of coaching as a high school football assistant.
His goal for the Tiger esports program is to have full rosters for League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, and Valorant.
Coach Johnson commented on the opportunity to take over the esports program at CCCK saying, "I'm really excited and grateful to be taking over the esports program at Central Christian. I believe there is so much potential in the esports world for growth, which can be used to further Central's great work. I also know firsthand how many great friendships can be formed through gaming with others. Some of my best friends in life are friends I made while gaming. One of my top goals for the program is that we can use esports to develop strong relationships among our student-athletes while showing them Christ in all we do."
AD Moody commented, "I would like to thank Brandon Terry, and Doug Vanderhoof for the work they have done the past four years, keeping the Tiger esports program going. I am excited for Coach Johnson's leadership and look forward to the direction he takes the teams."
Coach Johnson and his wife Lizy, are currently the Resident Directors of Parsons Hall. They have for children Nora (7), Theo (5), Archie (3) and Gwennie (1).
