The CCC women's tennis team opened up their season Friday night with a 2-7 loss indoors at Genesis Health Club in Salina, against Stephens College.
After the doubles portion of the team dual, the Tigers trailed the Stars 1-2. The doubles win came the #3 position. The freshman / junior duo of Em Barnett and Kei Aizawa teamed up to earn the win in a tiebreaker 9-8. They dominated the extra session, winning the tiebreaker 7-1.
In singles, The Stars were strong at the top of their lineup. In the top four singles matches, the Tigers won just three of the 35 total games played. Tiger Tigers fared better at #5 and #6. Em Barnett lost a close match at #5 6-8, and at #6 Elyse Merritt got the Tigers' second win, defeating her opponent 8-5.
CCC head coach Jeremy Nelson was pleased with his team's performance saying, "I was proud of the effort the ladies put forth tonight. Even though we didn't get the result we wanted, I saw a lot of good things on the court. We have plenty to continue to work on, but it's not going to take long to get where we want to be."
The Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday when they go on the road to play Tabor College at 2:00 pm.
