Tigers Fall to JBU and OCU on the Road

Oklahoma City, Okla. – The Tigers competed in two Sooner Athletic Conference matchups over the weekend. Their first stop was Friday night in Siloam Springs, Arkansas when they faced John Brown University. The Saturday afternoon matchup would see the Tigers travel to Oklahoma City to face the Oklahoma City University Stars.
Friday night saw the Tigers battle with the Golden Eagles of John Brown and the first set was truly a battle with the Tigers dropping the set 24-26. The Tigers would struggle to recover as they dropped the second set 15-25. John Brown was too much for the Tigers as they would win the third set 25-13 to down the Tigers in straight sets.
The Tigers would have a quick turnaround with a 1PM game against Oklahoma City. This did not seem to affect the Tigers in the first set as they would cut it close but lost the set 20-25. The second set looked promising for the Tigers as they scored 5 straight points to take a 5-3 lead in the set. The Tigers were hindered by multiple attack errors as they would drop the set 14-25. The Tigers showed some fight in the third set as they would get within one of the Stars to make it 15-16 but would lose the set 17-25 to lose another in straight sets.

Coach Quote
"Our team seems to improve each time we step on the court. Right now, we are trying to overcome the mental aspect of winning or losing. We have been playing well as of late, and I believe we have what we need to perform well through the second half of the conference schedule. We've seen improvement in how we start matches especially on Friday when we played JBU to 24-26 in the first set, followed by a first-set performance of 20-25 with the Stars on Saturday. Busy week this week as we play 3 matches in 4 days but I am confident our team will have success." – Coach Rick Hughes

Next Up
This will be an eventful week for the Tigers as they are playing 3 matches in 4 days. First, they travel to Langston University for a SAC matchup on Tuesday, the 26th. That is followed by a home game on Thursday, Sept. 28th against Southwestern Christian at 7PM. Friday night on the 29th at 7PM, the Tigers face-off against their crosstown rival McPherson College.
