Tigers Garner First SAC Win With Five Set Thriller Over SCU

Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Central Christian College of Kansas Women's Volleyball team traveled to Oklahoma to face the Oklahoma City University Stars on Friday night and the Southwestern Christian University Eagles on Saturday. 

Game 1: The Tigers opened the weekend against Oklahoma City who looked to improve on thier 3 game win streak. The first set was full of action, neither team could pull away. The Tigers had a 15-14 lead at one point in the set but could not string together enough runs to capitolize. The Stars would go on to win the first set 25-23. 

After four quick points to start the set, the Tigers gave up 10 of the next 11 points to fall down 11-5 in the set. The Tigers would not recover and would go on to drop the second set 25-14. The Tigers looked to bounce back but could not gain any momentum in the third set. The Stars scored seven straight points to take a commanding lead in the third set and would ultimately win the set 25-17 and take the match in straight sets, 3-0.

For the match, the Tigers had 23 kills and just 19 errors on 106 swings for a positive hitting percentage of .038. 

Game 2: The Tigers looked to turn things around on Saturday as they faced Southwestern Christian in Bethany, Oklahoma. Both of these teams were searching for their first SAC win of the season. The Tigers exploded out of the gate, taking a 16-8 lead in the first set. SCU threatened as they scored 8 of the next 9 points to cut their deficit to just one point. Central would rally to score 5 of the last 6 points to take the first set 25-21. The Eagles would go on to take sets two and three to take a 2-1 lead in the match. The Tigers responded well by dominating the fourth set, 25-14 to push the match to a fifth and deciding set. The Tigers showed grit by winning the fifth set 15-11 and taking the match in 5 sets, 3-2.

The Tigers notched 55 kills on 188 swings with just 29 errors on the match, resulting in a hitting percentage of .138.
