Hesston, Kan. - The Central Christian College of Kansas Women's Volleyball team took a break from Sooner Athletic Conference play to play Hesston College Larks on Tuesday evening.
The Tigers battled in the first set but could not string multiple runs together to gain an advantage in the set. The Larks capitolized in the first set by swinging .344 with just three errors to break away and win the first set 25-18.
Down one set, the Tigers came out determined in the second set and held a 9-7 lead until the Larks went on to score 9 of the next 11 points to take a 16-11 lead in the set. The Tigers responded with four straight points of their own to cut the lead to one point. The Tigers comeback in the set was short-lived as the Larks staved them off, winning the set 25-22.
The Tigers, now down 2-0 in the match took advantage early in the set on some Hesston miscues. They jumped out to a 6-2 lead and eventually led 11-7 before Hesston scored four straight to tie the set at 11-11. After trading aces and errors, the two teams found themselves knotted at 20-20 in the set. The Larks would proceed to outscore the Tigers 5-3 across the next 8 points to take the set 25-23 and the match in straight sets, 3-0.
Despite dropping the match, the Tigers tallied 38 kills on 107 swings with just 17 errors resulting in a .196 hitting percentage.
