Late Goal Not Enough as Tigers Fall to Southwestern

Winfield, Kan. – The Central Christian College Men's Soccer Team took on Southwestern College on Wednesday night as they looked to get back on track following their draw against Sterling.

The Tigers found themselves playing from behind early, as Southwestern struck first in the 16th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Despite creating several first-half opportunities, Central couldn't find the back of the net before the break.

Just minutes into the second half, Central Christian found their rhythm. In the 46th minute, forward Boston Peterson leveled the score at 1-1 with a well-placed finish, giving the Tigers renewed energy and momentum.

However, Southwestern responded in the 67th minute with a goal of their own to take a 2-1 lead. The Tigers continued to press and were rewarded late in the game, as they equalized in the 86th minute off the foot of Sidney Tippner to make it 2-2, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.

That drama, unfortunately, turned against the Tigers when a foul inside the box gave Southwestern a penalty kick in the 87th minute. Southwestern converted from the spot to reclaim the lead, and Central Christian was unable to find a response in the final minutes.

The narrow loss drops the Tigers to (0-1-1), and they will now turn their attention to Saturday as they welcome Briar Cliff to McPherson. Kick-off is scheduled for 11:00AM. The game will be streamed live on the SAC Sports Network and Urban Edge Network.
