Late First Half Goal Not Enough as Tigers Fall to Sterling 2-1 in Home Opener

McPherson, Kan. — The Central Christian College of Kansas Women's Soccer team opened their 2025 season at home on Saturday, falling 2-1 to visiting Sterling College in a hard-fought matchup.

Sterling came out strong and stunned the Tigers early, netting their first goal just three minutes into the match. The quick strike set the tone for a high-energy first half, with the Warriors adding a second goal later in the half to double their lead.

Central struggled to generate chances early but found life just before the break. With only 15 seconds remaining in the first half, Maria Duda Farias delivered a crucial spark, finding the back of the net to cut the deficit to 2-1. The goal gave the Tigers momentum heading into the locker room, but it ultimately wasn't enough.

The second half saw Central press for an equalizer, but the Sterling defense held firm. Despite several promising build-ups and a few looks on goal, the Tigers couldn't break through again.

The Tigers (0-1), will look to bounce back in their next outing as they go on the road to Spurgeon College on Wednesday, August 27th. The Tigers are back at home on Saturday, August 30th as they take on Friends University at 7:30PM. The game will be streamed on the SAC Sports Network and Urban Edge Network.
