Tigers Split Series with Langston

Langston, Okla. - The Tiger Softball team continued conference play with a trip to Langston University in Oklahoma. Coming off two wins against Bethel, the Tigers looked to carry that momentum over into this series.  

Game 1, L 4-5 

The first game of the series saw fireworks right away as the Tigers struck for 2 runs on two hits in the first inning. The Lions would answer with a run of their own in the bottom of the first. The Tigers stretched their lead to 4-1 in the 6th inning after two hits and an error. The Tigers however would let the Lions back in the game in the 7th inning after multiple hits, the game was tied 4-4. The Lions would go on to walk it off in the bottom of the 7th and win the game 5-4.  

Game 2, L 9-11 

Looking to rally from the earlier loss, the Tigers came out swinging in the first inning again, tallying 4 runs highlighted by a 2-rbi single from Mary De La Garza. Langston would claw back by posting a 7-run inning to take a 7-4 lead. The Tigers would inch closer after Abby Schleisman hit a homerun to cut the deficit to just 2 runs. Langston would tack on 3 more in the 3rd to extend their lead to 10-5. After putting up 4 more runs, the Tigers would drop this game 9-11 and turn their attention to tomorrow's games.  

Game 3, W 8-7 

A new day presented new opportunities for the Tigers, and they would take advantage of them. After a Lion homerun in the first, Baylee Blackburn would respond with a homerun of her own in the second inning. The game was knotted up seemingly after each inning as the two teams traded runs. The Tigers took the lead 8-6 in the 6th after putting up 4 runs on 3 hits. Langston would get a run in the 7th but the Tigers would hold them off to get the win, 8-7 for thier first conference win of the season. 

Game 4, W 17-12 

Looking to even the series, the Tigers wanted to leave no doubt in this game.  The Tigers struck for 9 runs in the third inning. Ashley Vaccaro smashed a 2-run homerun and Abby Schleisman tripled to help break the game open. The Lions would respond with 9 runs over the next 3 innings to even the game up. The Tigers posted 4 runs in the 7th to put the game out of reach and would go on to win the game 17-12 to tie the series at 2-2.  

The Tigers (6-20, 2-14), return home to face the Wayland Baptist Pioneers this weekend. As of now, the games are scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
