Tigers Split Two Games with Wayland, Series Ends Early Due to Weather

McPherson, Kan. – Tiger Softball continued Sooner Athletic Conference play as they took on Wayland Baptist University. The series was moved up to Thursday and Friday as rain in the forecast threatened play.

Game 1, W 3-2
The Pioneers struck first in this first game in the 3rd inning. The Tigers responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead. Wayland tied the game with a homerun in the 4th inning. A back and forth game and two scoreless innings later set the table for the Tigers to walk it off in the bottom of the 7th. After an error and a stolen base, Paige Major hit a ground ball to second and after a wild throw to third, the winning run came around to score walking it off for the Tigers.

Game 2, L 0-5
After their big win in Game 1, the Tigers looked to continue their success. Chelsie Hirtler got the start in the circle for the Tigers. Wayland Baptist took advantage of multiple hits to strike first to the tune of two runs after 3 innings. The Tiger bats would go cold as they could not string any hits together. The Pioneers tacked on 3 more runs in the 6th inning to take a 5-0 lead. They would go on to win by this score and even the series at one game each.

Friday morning rain prevented the teams from playing on Friday. No dates or times have been announced for the makeup games.
The Tigers (7-21, 3-15), will now travel to Mid-America Christian University on Tuesday, April 8th for two games and will finish the series the next week here in McPherson on the 15th.
