Tigers Hang on to Topple Warriors, Move to 2-0 on Season

McPherson, Kan. The Tiger Men's basketball team took on Sterling College on Saturday night to conclude the 2025 Classic For Christ looking to build on a season opening win over Hesston College the previous night.

The Tigers started the game hot but saw Sterling fight their way back into it and trailed by as much as 6 point towards the end of the Half. A good run from the Tigers to close the half put them up 41-38 at the break highlighted by 21 points from Chris Whitten.

The second half of basketball would feature a lot of back and forth action with neither team really being able to pull away. The Tigers ended up down 68-63 with just a few minutes left, but Junior Guard Michael Doria hit 2 huge back to back 3 pointers to give the Tigers the lead and a ton of momentum. The Tigers would feed off of that and close the game out in strong fashion winning 77-72. Chris Whitten finished with 33 points with Travis King and Jaeden Whitten also finishing with double digit points with 14 and 11 respectively.

The Tigers come out of their opening weekend at 2-0 and will get ready for a huge matchup against intown rival McPherson College to compete for the Mayors Cup as well as the battle for the 2025 Collegiate cup between the two schools. Tipoff is set for 8pm at McPherson College and the game will be streamed on the KCAC Network.
