Tigers Battle Hard but Fall Short Against Tabor College
McPherson, Kan. - The Central Christian College men's basketball team put up a strong fight in front of their home crowd on Friday night, but came up just short in a 92–86 loss to Tabor College. Despite several standout individual performances, the Tigers couldn't overcome the Bluejays' hot shooting and ability to get to the free-throw line.
Central traded blows with Tabor early, keeping the game tight through the first half. The Tigers trailed 45–40 at the break and continued to battle down the stretch, but the Bluejays' inside presence and efficiency at the line proved to be the difference.
Leading the way for Central was Chris Whitten, who poured in a game-high 25 points on 8-of-15 shooting while adding 10 rebounds for a double-double. Travis King also turned in an impressive performance with 13 points, 13 boards, four assists, and four steals, providing energy on both ends of the floor.
The Tigers showed grit on the glass, outrebounding Tabor 43–35 and pulling down 13 offensive rebounds that led to second-chance points. Central also made the most of its opportunities at the stripe, converting 25-of-34 free throws (73.5%).
However, the Bluejays were efficient offensively, shooting 55.8% from the field and scoring 44 points in the paint. Tabor also took advantage of frequent trips to the line, knocking down 30-of-41 free throws to help seal the win.
Despite the loss, the Tigers showed strong competitiveness and flashes of high-level play against a tough opponent. The Tigers (3-1), will continue non-conference play as they take on Manhattan Christian College in Manhattan tomorrow night at 7pm.
