Tigers Win Over Hesston in Classic for Christ Opener

McPherson, Kan. — Central Christian College of Kansas opened the 2025–26 men's basketball season in convincing fashion Friday night, rolling past Hesston College 83–62 at home.

The Tigers set the tone early, building a 12-point halftime lead and never letting up on either end of the floor. Central Christian controlled the game inside, out-rebounding the Larks 54–35 and outscoring them 32–16 in the paint.

Leading the way was Chris Whitten, who poured in 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting while adding eight rebounds. His brother Jaeden Whitten was dominant in the paint, posting a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Jevarrick Butler gave the Tigers a big spark with 14 points and four made threes, and Travis King contributed a steady 10 points and seven boards.

Kendrick Davis provided an efficient lift off the bench, going 2-for-2 from the floor and 3-for-6 from the free-throw line for eight points in 12 minutes, while Andre Cooper added seven points and a pair of assists.

Central Christian shot 44.3 percent from the field while holding Hesston to just 32.8 percent shooting. The Tigers also made 22 free throws compared to Hesston's 11 and turned 15 offensive rebounds into 12 second-chance points.

The win marks a strong start for CCCK, who showed depth and balance throughout the roster — 11 different Tigers found the scoring column.

Central Christian (1–0), will look to build on the momentum when they return to the court today to face Sterling College in the conclusion of the 2025 CCCK Classic for Christ.
