Sterling, Kan. – The Central Christian College of Kansas Men's Soccer team opened their season up at Sterling College yesterday afternoon. The Tigers wasted no time as
Marco Cherchi opened up the scoring just three minutes into the game.
Johnny Rodriguez would get in on the action with a goal of his own at the 12
th minute to give Central a 2-0 lead early.
The Tigers picked up the second half right where they left off as
Drew Schrader scored quickly into the second half to pad the Tigers lead. Sterling would attempt to mount a comeback as they got on the board in the 64
th minute to cut the lead to 3-1 in favor of the Tigers. Central did a great job of controlling possession as the Warriors only took two shots on goal the entire game. The Tigers would tack on two more goals in the 76
th and 88
th minutes to increase their lead to 5-1. Central would end up winning by this score and starting their season on the right foot.
When asked about his teams performance, Coach Bartlow said, "Great start to the season. I felt we were in control of all phases which is something we've spoken about at length. It's always nice to have multiple goal scorers on the stat line. I was disappointed to see us concede though because I thought we defended brilliantly. Thankful for the boys providing a stress less first Central win. All in all, it's a good win and we're looking forward to Bethel."
The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, August 31
st against Bethel here at home. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30PM and the match will be streamed live on the SAC Sports Network.
