McPherson, Kan. – The Tigers looked to rebound from their first conference series of the year with a three-game slate against the Southwestern Assemblies of God University Lions. The games were moved to Sunday and Monday due to weather. A double-header was played on Sunday and the series finale featured a nine-inning game.
Peyton Ramsey got the nod in Game one on Sunday. He did a good job keeping the Lions off balance for most of the game. Ramsey would go the distance delivering seven strong innings where he allowed just three runs and five hits while walking two and striking out five. The offense was powered by
Louie Martinez's two run homer in the bottom of the second. The Tiger bats would stay hot as J.T Taylor would drive in two with a single in the bottom of the third to extend the Tiger lead to 4-1. After adding a run in the 4
th inning as well, the Tigers would take game one of the series 5-3.
In the second game,
Cole Hancock got the start for the Tigers. SAGU got to Hancock early as they put up two quick runs in the 1
st inning. That would be all for Hancock as Tristan Caster came in to relieve him in the 2
nd inning. Castner worked 3 2/3 innings where the Lions continued where they left off. They erupted with six runs in the fifth inning and seven runs in the sixth inning. The Tigers would ultimately drop game 2, 18-0.
The Tigers hoped to change their fortunes during the series finale on Monday. If you're a fan of offense, this was the game for you. There were 33 runs and 26 hits combined between both teams.
Jordan Ramsey was on the mound for the series finale where he went 3 1/3 innings allowing six runs and five hits and he struck out three. SAGU's offense exploded in the later innings scoring five in the seventh and seven runs in the eighth inning. James Perales two-run homer to right center. Defensive miscues also played a big role within the amount of runs that were scored. The Tigers would ultimately drop the game 22-11 in eight innings and drop the series 2-1.
