Tigers Sweep KCC with Two Shutouts

McPherson, Kan. – The Central Christian College softball team was back on the diamond on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference double header with the Kansas Christian College Falcons. The Tigers and Falcons met two weeks ago on the KCC home field with the two teams splitting the double header. In this installment, on the Tigers' home field, the CCCK ladies swept the Falcons without surrendering a single run.

Game 1: W, 3-0

The Tigers were in control from the start, but struggled to pull away from the Falcons. Madalyn Griffin, who was in the circle for the Tigers had to work herself out of several jams, and though the Tiger hitters were able to frequently reach base, they struggled to get timely hits with runners in scoring position.

The Tiger offense jumped out to a 2-0 lead with solo runs in the bottom of the first and second innings, but then went dormant for three innings, before getting a much needed insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. The defense, despite three miscues, did their part to secure the 3-0 victory.

Hitting: The Tigers scored three runs on seven hits. Three of the seven hits went for extra bases, and all three were doubles.

Pitching: Madalyn Griffin went the distance for the Tigers, picking up a two hit shutout on her way to her fourth win of the season. She finished with seven strikeouts and no walks.

They scored three runs in the first, four more in the second, and then five in the third to lead 12-0. They added two more for good measure in the fourth to win 14-0 and shorten the game to five innings via the run rule.

Hitting: The Tigers scored their 14 runs on 16 hits, that included 11 extra base hits. Four Tigers recorded multiple hits, including Barrera, who was a perfect 4 for 4 from the dish with three doubles, and three runs batted in.

Pitching: Sara Lynch got the start and worked the first three innings. She picked up the win, shutting out the Falcons on just three hits, with one strikeout and three walks. Kayla Voss came out of the bullpen and pitched the final two innings. She held the Falcons hitless and scoreless and finished with one strikeout and no walks.
