Tough Weekend for Tigers at Home vs WBU

McPherson, Kan.  – It was a rough weekend for the Central Christian College baseball team as they hosted Wayland Baptist University in a three game series out at Tiger Stadium. The Tigers were swept by the Pioneers, all three games in lopsided fashion.

Game 1, L 20-2

Hitting: The Tigers scored two runs four hits. Three of the four hits went for extra bases, including a solo homerun by Alejandro Pina.

Pitching: Five different pitchers saw action in the opener. Brandon Vegas got the start, but struggled with his control and didn't make it out of the first inning. He was credited with five runs, four of them earned, on one hit with four walks and no strikeouts. After Vegas, the Tigers used Elliot Castorena, Cole Hancock, Peyton Ramsey, and Armando Aguilar. They combined to give up 15 runs on 16 hits with three strikeouts and four walks.

Game 2, L, 20-3

Game two was more of the same. The Pioneer hitters feasted on the Tiger pitching while the offense struggled at the dish.

Hitting: The Tigers managed one more run and two more hits in the second game on Friday. Two of the six hits went for extra bases including a double by Tim Escamilla, and a homerun by Noel Aquino.

Pitching: Four more Tiger arms saw action in Friday's night cap. Tristan Castner was the game two starter and collared the loss. He worked the first two innings giving up seven runs on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Dominic Terrones, Cody Rohrbough, and Nick Clayson come on in relief of Castner. They collectively gave up 13 runs on nine hits.

Hitting: In the series finale, the Tigers scored more runs than in the two games on Friday combined. They finished with six runs on six hits, all of them singles.

Pitching: Levi Atherton was the game three starter. He worked the first inning, allowing six runs on seven hits with one strikeout and six walks. Reese Lyons, Colt Gniech, Daniel Scott, Ryan McFarland, Marshall Owens, and Hunter Bennett saw action out of the pen.
