Sterling, Kan. – The Central Christian College baseball team played their first mid-week game of the season on Tuesday, making the short trip over to Sterling, Kansas for a 9 inning game with the Sterling College Warriors.
After a lengthy weather delay early in the contest, the game finally resumed and they were able to complete it. The Tigers put up a good fight against the Warriors but were edged out 3-2.
The Tigers got on the board first with a single run in the top of the first inning. The Warriors responded with a run of their own to tie the game in their half of the first inning. They added a second run in the bottom of the second, then an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh. The Tigers tried to mount a rally in the final two innings but were only able to score one run in the top of the eighth to cut the lead to 3-2.
Hitting: The Tigers scored their two runs on five hits. Four of the five hits were base knocks with the other a double by
Eli Campbell.
Pitching: With a four games coming up this weekend in their home opener, the Tiger coaching staff elected to try an save as many arms as they could to make everyone available for Friday and Saturday. To that end they sent seven different pitchers to the bump. Everyone pitched one inning with the exception of
Marshall Owens, who threw two. All seven combined to give up three runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and six walks.
