McPherson, Kan. – It was a rough night for the Central Christian College basketball teams as they made the short trip to the east side of McPherson to take on crosstown rival McPherson College in the annual "Mayor's Cup" game.
The Tiger women took the court first, and aside from two quarters of play, the game was much more competitive than in recent years. The Tigers got off to a good start, and led the Bulldogs 4-2 early in the first quarter, but then experienced a lull, and the home team went on a 19 to 8 run to close out the period 21-12.
In the second and third quarters, the Tigers were dead even with the Bulldogs. McPherson won the second quarter 18 to 17, to lead by 10 at the halftime intermission, but the Tigers came out and won the third quarter 20 to 19.
Unfortunately in the fourth quarter, the Tigers ran out of steam. The Bulldogs went on a run late in the quarter and wound up running away with the period 20 to 9. The final score of 78-58 was not indicative of the level at which the Tigers competed.

Coaches Quote
"For three and a half quarters we competed, we didn't shoot well and we had way too many turnovers but we competed! The last four minutes I need to do a better job of Coaching. We need to finish games. We are getting better and we will continue to get better!" – Coach Willems
