Tigers Fall to SAGU on Senior Day

McPherson, Kan. – The Central Christian College women's soccer team squared off against the Southwestern Assemblies of God University Lions on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in front of the home faithful at CCCK Tiger field. It was senior day, and prior to the match-up with the Lions, the Tigers took time to honor five ladies, Aliyah Moya, Sarah Campbell, Angela Alvarez, Isabel Schutter, and Sandra Soto, who will wrap up their careers at the conclusion of the season.

The Tigers gave a valiant effort against the Lions, but they were unable to send their seniors out with a win on Senior Day. The Lions scored one goal in the first half on a penalty kick, then three more in the second half to win 4-0.

Katelyn Beckman (So. Colorado Springs, Colo.), was in goal again for the Tigers. She faced 12 shots on goal, saving eight. The Tiger offense managed only two shots on goal.

Coach Macharia summed up the game saying, "Today's game was a great time to honor our five seniors and their commitment to our team. They have been a joy to coach and I had hoped that we would have given them a better result.  We began well and through the first 30 minutes I felt like it was a well balanced game. We created 2 or 3 chances that we did not capitalize on. The game turned when the referee gave a penalty kick to SAGU and after Beckman made a great save he asked for a retake."

He added, "We tried in 2nd half to put more numbers on attack which left us open in the back and we gave up three goals. This was a game I thought we could get a positive result so it is sad that we came up short. We have a game on Tuesday so we can't wallow in our pain but start preparing and hopefully healing our injuries."

As Coach Macharia alluded to, the Tigers will be back on the pitch again on Tuesday afternoon, hosting the USAO Drovers at 5:30 pm. It will be the final home game of the year for the Tigers.
