McPherson, Kan. – The Central Christian College women's soccer team hosted the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma Drovers on Tuesday evening, in their final home game of the season.
The Drovers, a perennial power house in the Sooner Athletic Conference, came into the contest second in the conference standings. It was going to be a tall order for the Tigers regardless, but it was made even more difficult by the fact that the Tiger lineup has been depleted by injury as of late.
The Tigers who were healthy and able, put forth a valiant effort, but in the end the Drovers left McPherson with a 7-1 victory. They scored five goals in the opening half, then added two more in the second. The highlight for the Tigers came in the 37th minute of the opening half. Aliyah Moya (Sr. Colorado Springs, Colo.), put a shot on frame that the Drover goal keeper tried to take on the short hop, but misplayed it. The ball ricocheted off the goal keeper and found the foot of Arleanna Palomares (Jr. Westwood Mesa, Ariz.), who fired it into the back of the net.
Katelyn Beckman (So. Colorado Springs, Colo.), was in goal for the Tigers. She faced 18 shots on goal, and finished 11 saves.
The Tigers will wrap up their season on Saturday when they travel to Bethany, Oklahoma to take on the Southwestern Christian University Eagles. Kick-off is slated for 1:00 pm.
