Goodwell, Okla. – The Central Christian College women's soccer team picked up their first win of the season on Friday afternoon, going on the road in Oklahoma to defeat the Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggies 2-0.

The Tigers persevered through blustery conditions in the Panhandle of Oklahoma where there is not much to stop the wind. The Tigers led 1-0 at that halftime intermission after a goal from Avery Lemons (So. Overland Park, Kan.), her third of the season, in the 34th minute.

The Tigers clung to that 1-0 lead through much of the second half. They finally got the breathing room that they needed, in the 88th minute when Aliyah Moya (Sr. Colorado Springs, Colo.), took a pass from Lemons, dribbled and beat an Aggie defender, and slotted her 7th goal of the season, putting the Tigers up 2-0.

Katelyn Beckman (So. Colorado Springs, Colo.), got the win and the clean sheet for the Tigers in goal. She faced two shots on goal from the Aggies, stopping them both.

An elated Coach Macharia, summed up the Tigers' performance saying, "To say this has been a tough season is an understatement so when we won our first game against OPSU on Friday, we not only celebrated greatly but there was a huge sense of relief."

He added, "The girls played an awesome game even on a very windy day and against a very determined opponent. A lot of our players had their best game of the season, most of them playing new positions because of the injuries we have suffered this year. Winning the game with two goals and not conceding a goal was an amazing achievement for us. So when we rang the [victory] bell at 10:30pm Friday night I could not hide how proud I was of my team."

The Tigers will look to make it two in a row when they head out on the road Tuesday for a match-up with John Brown University, the SAC's top ranked team, and the conference's only undefeated side. Kick-off is slated for 5:00 pm in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
