McPherson, Kan. – The Central Christian College women's basketball team was back at the friendly confines of the Jerry Alexander Arena and Ellis Odermann Court on Thursday evening for a Sooner Athletic Conference match-up with the Southwestern Christian University Eagles.
With the exception of the second quarter, it was an offensive struggle for the Tigers for most of the night against the Eagles. The Tigers scored 15 points in quarter number two, compared to just 17 in the other three periods combined as they fell to the Eagles 68-32.
The Tigers were within 10 points of the Eagles at the halftime intermission 31-21, but came out of the locker room after the break ice cold. The Tigers had just 7 healthy bodies available for Thursday's game which forced the Tiger coaching staff to alter the normal defensive game plan.
The Tigers have played mostly man to man defense all season, but with limited personnel, the Tigers went to a 2-3 zone defense. The change kept the Eagles off balance for much of the opening half, but in the second half they made some key adjustments that allowed them to break down the Tiger zone.
By the Numbers
For the game, the Tiger offense went 11-47 (23%) from the floor.
For the second game in a row, they struggled from behind the three point arc hitting on just 3 of 23 (13%) of their attempts.
They went 7-15 (33%) from the free throw line.
The Eagles won the battle of the boards 45-38, and the turnover battle 18 to 4.
