McPherson, Kan. – The Central Christian College women's soccer team dropped their Sooner Athletic Conference opener on Wednesday evening, falling to the Southwestern Christian University Eagles 1-0 at home.

The Tigers, who have been bit by the injury bug lately, were missing a few key components as they took on the Eagles, who entered the game a 2-2-2 overall. Despite the missing players, and other players playing in different positions, the Tigers went toe to toe with the Eagles.

Statistically, the box scored favored the visiting Eagles, who outshot the Tigers 20 to 8 overall, and 11 to 4 in shots on goal. Freshman Katelyn Beckman had a fantastic night between the pipes for the Tigers keeping her team in the game with nine saves.

The only goal of the game came in the 26th minute of the opening half. The Eagles were awarded a corner kick. On the service, the ball found the head of one of the SCU attackers and in the midst of a mass of bodies in the middle of the box, the ball found its way into the back of the net. The Tigers had a few good looks at an equalizer later in the first half, and then again in the second, but were unable to finish.

Coach Macharia commented on his teams' performance saying, "This was a tough game! Southwestern Christian was a very good team with some special players that were tough to contain. I am proud of our team and the efforts they put in not only to contain a good opponent but to create good goal scoring chances. If we continue this way we will cause a few surprises."

The loss evens the Tigers' overall record at 4-4, and leaves them 0-1 in the SAC. They will be back on the pitch on Saturday on the road at Mid-America Christian University in Oklahoma City. Kick-off is slated for 5:00 pm.
