McPherson, Kan. – The Central Christian College women's basketball team squared off against crosstown rival McPherson College in the 5th annual "Mayor's Cup" on Tuesday night in the friendly confines of the Jerry E. Alexander Arena.

The Tigers put up a good fight, but in the end, the Bulldogs had too much depth and talent and they left Ellis Odermann Court with a 67-44 win. The Tigers struggled in the first two quarters to score the ball. They got down 18-8 after the first quarter, and by the end of the half the deficit had ballooned out to 19 points, 33-14.

In the second half the Tigers played much better, and kept the score much closer. The Bulldogs won the third quarter by just one point 13-12, extending their lead to 46-26. The Tigers had their best offensive quarter in the fourth, scoring 18 points. Unfortunately so did the Bulldogs who put up 21 in the quarter, making the final deficit 23 points.

Coaches Quote:

"In my limited experience with the Mayor's Cup, I have seen that there is an intensity unlike our other home games. I think my young team experienced that "more intense" atmosphere last night. We struggled to connect with each other on offense and defense for the first half and got down by a good bit. The silver lining was that we started to "get it" in the second half. I think they played better together and put a good second half together. Every game for us is a chance to grow and tonight I truly believe that we grew in our understanding of how to play team basketball. Proud of the Tigers." – Coach Barreiro
