MCPHERSON, Kansas – Central Christian drops three straight sets to the Bethel Thresher to begin 2021 Season, 25-17, 25-17, 25-22 today at the Jerry Alexander Arena.
Bethel's freshman outside hitter Bailee Alexander would lead all players in kills (10), with teammate and setter Mia Roman dishing out 18 assist to lead all players.
The Tiger's offense would be led by two sophomore hitters who would account for 16 of the 22 team's kills on the night with
Aijha Sampsell leading the way with 9 and
Zola Moore adding 7 of her own. Senior setter
McKenzee Cook would lead the Tigers with 14 assist and 7 digs on tonight performance.
Set-by-Set Summaries
Set 1 – Threshers and Tigers keep it close to begin the set before the Threshers start to pull away from the Tigers as Thresher hitters collect 12 kills, 5 errors out of 34 attempts (.206) compared to the Tigers 7 kills, 9 errors out of 31 attempts (-.065).
Set 2 – Tigers get out to a slow start and the Threshers take the early advantage and put the Tigers in a 17-10 hole. Tigers go on to close out the set close 8-7 with the Threshers but drop the 2
nd set 25-17 as the Tiger hitters only account for 4 kills.
Set 3 – The most back and forth set of the match and neither team would account for more than a 3 point advantage the entire set. Both teams would have similar hitting with the Threshers going 12 Kills, 6 errors on 30 attempts (.200) and the Tigers going for 11 Kills, 6 errors, on 25 attempts (.200). Bethel would build a 22-19 lead and hold off the Tigers comeback to force the match into 4 sets and take the set 25-22 and sweep the Tigers 3-0.
