McPherson, KS – Lady Tigers had a lot of important scenarios that have playoff implications and the Tigers did a great job of upsetting the Aggies two of the four games.
Game One
Taylor Bourne would be the hero in this game going 1 for 3, as she tripled in the bottom of the 7
th to knock in the game tying run and then would score the walk off run thanks to a wild pitch.
Mekaylee Beard would have one of her best performances on the mound after coming in relief after Lady Tiger starter
Hannah Hoffman got off to a bumpy start letting up 3 runs in the top of the 1
st. Beard would go 5.1 innings only surrendering a run off six hits before
Kayla Voss would come in to complete the top of the 7
th and keep the Tigers in the game.
Offensively the Tigers would be outhit 9 to 6, but the Tiger hits would come in clutch time as they would score the more important stat line of 6 runs to the Aggies 5.
Game Two
After a close game one the Tigers and Aggies would have another game decided by a run. This time the Aggies would have the upper hand and take the nail bitter. This game would be like the first, in that the Tigers would need to make a last inning comeback. Down 5-2 the Tigers made the Aggies earn this victory down to the last out. Tigers would score 2 runs and have a runner on 1
st with two outs before Lewis would fly out to deep center to end the game and the Aggies take game two 5-4.
Game Three
Aggies would dominate start to finish in this game and Sarah Conley of the OPSU Aggies would pitch a one hit shutout game to dominate the Tigers and put the Aggies up 2-1 for the series.
Game Four
Kayla Voss would save her best game of the year for the final home regular season game. She would go an outstanding 5.0 innings of work yielding one run on 3 hits with a walk and strikeout to earn her 2
nd win of the season and help the Tigers to a 2-2 split on the series.
Tiger's offense would be relatively tame until the bottom of the 5
th where they would score 8 runs including 5 with two outs to walk it off in run rule fashion.
Taylor Bourne would have another good game going 2 for 3 with 4 RBI, R, and 2 Stolen Bases. The rest of the Tigers would collect 7 hits, 6 RBI's, and draw 6 walks.
Tigers end the regular season 15-35, 6-26 SAC (8
th place) 3 conference wins ahead of 9
th place SCU.
Central Christian Quotes:
Head Coach
Aaron Annis
"The team knew what they had to do this week to make a playoff run and they got the job done. We got hits when we had runners in scoring position at the right time. Taylor made a nice read on the ball from the catcher to walk it off in game 1 and then she turned around and had a great hit to the outfield to give us a chance to score 2 runs to walk off in game 4. It took the whole team to win this week for senior week and they did a great job. Senior played well and should be very proud of what they have accomplished at their time here at Central Christian College. The ride is not over as we will wait patiently to see if our 3 game lead is enough for postseason next week."
Go Tigers!
