Oklahoma City, OK – The Lady Tigers entered the SAC Tournament seeded as the #8 team in the conference. They would go into a pool play with #1 Oklahoma City, #4 SAGU, and #5 TXWES hosted by OCU. Winner of this pool and the other pool hosted by Science & Arts would play each other in the finals game today.
Game One 05/06 #1 Oklahoma City vs #8 Central Christian
Top-seeded OCU would get out to an early 2-0 lead in the 1
st inning thanks to 2 errors from Central Christian. The Tigers knew they couldn't make any mistakes against the #1 team in the nation and unfortunately it happened early and the Tigers couldn't get anything going offensively. Defensive would have a decent game only allowing 5 runs compared to their regular season games all of which resulted in being run-ruled by the 5
th inning.
Game Two 05/06 #4 SAGU vs #8 Central Christian
The Lady Tigers would have the last game of the afternoon and made it one of the most exciting games of the tournament. Tigers were swept by SAGU all four games of the season with only one being a close pitchers dual in which the Tigers lost 1-0. This game however the Tigers would draw the first runs and never look back.
Jessica Aldana would add to her senior season campaign with a single that scored 2 to give the Tigers their 2-0 lead. Another highlight would come from So. Pitcher
Hannah Hoffman who was struggling in her recent outings, but showed up big time here and pitched 5.0 innings giving up 2 runs and
Mekaylee Beard would come in with the lead and record a save to secure the upset victory over #4 SAGU.
Game Three 05/07 #5 TXWES vs #8 Central Christian
After an exciting upset victory over the Lady Lions, the Tigers were eager to get back on the field and go to work. For the 2
nd game in a row they would jump out to an early lead. This time 4-1 thru 4 innings. The Lady Rams though would do what they did against the Tigers in the regular season and start to climb back into the game and in the 7
th inning they would walk it off and secure their comeback win 5-4 over the Tigers.
Tigers would complete their pool play in a 3 way tie at 1-2 with SAGU and TXWES. OCU would remain perfect going 3-0, and would run-rule SAGU and TXWES in their games. Given how many runs the Tigers let up, technically earned them 2
nd place as SAGU and TXWES gave up more runs than the Tigers. Not too shabby for the #8 seeded team!
Tigers conclude their season 16-37, 6-26 SAC.
Head Coach
Aaron Annis on the tournament:
"We started off hot with our bats to start the game. Defense played great all day. We just couldn't get that last out to go into extra innings.
Ashton Nelson had a great day at the plate and scoring 2 runs. A big thank you to the players on fighting to the end and a thank you to my seniors for working through all the ups and downs. They will be missed."
Go Tigers!
