Tigers compete in the KCAC-SAC Men's Wrestling Championship

2/15/2021 11:06:00 AM

McPherson, KS - For the first time in program history, the Tigers, got the honor to host the Men's Wrestling KCAC-SAC Championship. The event would be spread over two days, as 9 teams representing the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference and Sooner Athletic Conference battled it out with the opportunity to compete in the National Tournament on March 5-6 in Park City, Kansas.

Many Tiger wrestlers fulfilled their hopes and dreams and the others were sent home with a burning desire to get back to work. Two Tigers would stand out from the weekend, Jerome Cannon and Tyler Estep. Both guys would save their best wrestling for the conference event. Both guys came into the event in the bottom of their weight class and expectations to go home early, but these guys would not only pull of some major upsets, they would take home some hardware when the Championship was all said and done.

Jerome Cannon (149) would finish with a 5th place trophy and 2nd for the SAC.

Tyler Estep (174) would finish in 6th and 2nd for the SAC.
Tigers unfortunately wouldn't qualify anybody to continue on to the National Tournament, but really competed well and will return most guys next year with the hopes to build off this season success and send some wrestlers to the National Tournament!

Central Christian Quotes:
Head Coach Tim Prescott
"From the team aspect we had some guys step up and wrestle out of their 'seed'. Unfortunately that wasn't enough to punch their ticket to nationals. We are young and need more time and experience."
"The way this year was set up, they were fighting an uphill battle the entire time. We essentially had 1 month of real training leading up until conference, and still saw monumental progress in some of their development."
" I think this experience lit a fire underneath them to help them see where we are now and where we need/want to be."
" I think we are all fired up to get back to work and prepare for the years to come."

Go Tigers!
