Lady Tigers put scare into RV Stars in Conference Opener

MCPHERSON, KANSAS – The Lady Tigers opened up conference last night against RV Oklahoma City University. The Stars came into the contest averaging 81 points compared to the Lady Tigers, 44.5 points. The Women's Basketball team however played perhaps their best game thus far holding the Stars to a season-low 62, and scored 50 points, 5.5 points higher than their average.

GAME SUMMARY

1st Quarter
Between the Lady Tigers solid start and the Stars shooting slump, the ladies found themselves up 13-3 with 3:23 remaining. The Stars closed the quarter with 2-3 pointers, while the Tigers settled for a 2 pointer, however the Lady Tigers clung to a 15-9 lead.

2nd Quarter
Stars offense comes alive going on a 5-0 run through the first two minutes to get within 1 point of the Lady Tigers lead. The Lady Tigers responded with their own offense going on a 7-0 run to build back a 22-14 lead. To keep with the theme of the quarter the Stars then scored 6 unanswered points to get back within a possession, 22-20. Lady Tigers close on a 6-4 run and remain ahead, 28-24 heading to the 2nd half.

3rd Quarter
At the 6:04 minute mark the Stars tied the game for the first time since the beginning of the game at 34-34. A 3 pointer on their next possession gave them their first lead of the game, 37-34. A few possessions later, the Lady Tigers knocked down a 3 to tie the game at 37. At 1:14 remaining the Lady Tigers and Stars were knotted up at 40 a piece. The Stars ended the quarter with a 3 and a 2 to go up 45-40 heading to the 4th.

4th Quarter
5:54 remained in the quarter and the Stars had the first double digit lead of the game 54-43. The Lady Tigers and Stars trade buckets the rest of the quarter and Stars finish on a 8-7 run to avoid the upset, 62-50.

Lady Tigers go 20-55 (36.4%) from the floor, 9-29 (31%) from the 3 point line and hit 1 of 4 free throws.
