Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Tigers shutout Royals and cruise to 4th straight win

McPherson, KS
September 30, 2020

Tigers off to a hot start of the Season

Tigers find themselves in the winner's circle for the 4th straight game to start the season and have shutout their last 3 opponents. Tigers would be led by senior Matias Nunez who would score 2 goals and Junior GK Tanner Rose who would collect 5 saves.

The Tigers would create some early opportunities to break the 0-0 tie, but the Ecclesia GK would come up with some clutch saves and keep the Tigers off the board. Matias Nunez would finally break the tie in the 26th minute after a beautiful pass from teammate Ismael Valverde Karduchi to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead going into the half.
The 2nd half would be an exciting one as the Royals would have a couple of 1 on 1 opportunities with Junior Goal Keeper Tanner Rose. Tanner would come up with some clutch saves to keep the Tiger lead. Tanner would collect 4 saves alone in the 2nd half including a full extension leap and snagging the ball just before it crossed the goal line. The Tigers were able to keep the momentum and add to their lead thanks to another goal by Senior Matias Nunez and Freshman Drew Schrader would add another goal to put the Tigers out of reach and secure the victory.

"Another game where it took us a little bit to get going, I think. We just weren't sharp and couldn't really get much quality in the attacking 1/3. I think it was because we didn't have the necessary balance in our lineup, which was my fault. Fortunately, they didn't do much going forward."
"In the 2nd half, we were much more intense and forced a lot of turnovers, which led to chances. But our build up play was better, and the guys responded with two good goals."
"Overall, it was a successful day. Don't have much to complain about but a lot to look forward to as we transition into conference competition." Tigers will take a short break until hosting conference opponent Oklahoma Panhandle State University on October 9th @ 5:00 p.m.m
Go Tigers!
