Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer host Bulldogs in an epic 2 OT game

McPherson, Kan. – Central Christian College Men's Soccer Team took on McPherson College in a tune up match before the NCCAA National Tournament.

This would be the first meeting between the Tigers and Bulldogs since 2016. Central's last win against the Bulldogs came back 2011 and historically the Bulldogs have dominated the Tigers.

The Tigers would be challenged from the get-go, the Bulldogs would set the pace and hold the advantage most of the period. Goal Keeper Sebastian Herrera and the Tiger defense would do a good job to limit the opportunities for the Bulldogs and would have one costly slip-up that the Bulldogs would score on to take a 1-0 lead going into half.

Tigers would change their lineup in the second half and put some fresh legs on the field. This would seem to cause some disturbance in the Bulldog defense and create some great opportunities for the Tigers to get right back into the game. Drew Schrader would have a break away with only the goalie in front of him, the goalie would save the ball, but the ball would fall right to Leslie Feh who would have a beautiful strike in the back of the net and tie the game.

90 minutes wouldn't be enough for this match as neither the Tigers or Bulldogs would score again in regulation. In the first OT the Tigers and Bulldogs would show some fatigue as neither would be able to threaten too much. After the first OT the score would still be 1-1, thus a 2 OT would need to be played. Another 10 minutes of game time would go by and Tigers would threaten a couple of times, but the Bulldog GK would be able to keep the ball out of the net. Likewise Sebastian would have a clean 2nd half and two clean sheets in overtime.
Tiger and Bulldogs would go the distance and would not be able to declare a winner and end with a 1-1 tie.

Men's Soccer Coach Aaron Hoxie said this about tonight's performance:

"Tonight was a great tune up for the National Tournament next week. We needed to play and be challenged, so we capillary work on some different stuff. I appreciate Doug for taking the game."

"The game was exciting and open ended. Both teams were committed to the attack and it was fun to watch from a neutral perspective. Both GK's came up with some huge saves."

"I'm very happy with the kids. Everyone who played worked incredibly hard and earned what they got. Individual shout outs to Manny, he was a stud tonight, and the best player for us. Tyler was excellent, best game of his collegiate career. AY was a monster at RB, making 60 yd sprints to open up space in the final minute. I could go on and on about the guys individually, but this was truly a team effort."

Tigers will be back in action for the NCCAA National Tournament held in Florida in just under 2 weeks.

Go Tigers!
