Tigers scrape past the Aggies

McPherson, KS - October 9, 2020
Tigers scrape past the Aggies

Tigers got to have a sneak peek at conference today as they hosted SAC opponent OPSU, although this match doesn't count towards actual SAC record it stills gives a good outlook on how the Tigers fair in conference play.

Tigers were coming off a tough road match against Bellevue in which they lost 3-0. Tigers did a great job responding by scoring 3 goals in the first half to put the pressure on the Aggies to get back into the game. Despite the Tigers 3 goals in the first half the Aggies would find a way to erase their deficit and tie the game with only a couple of minutes remaining. Tigers would be fortunate to get a late foul call in the box and have junior Lisette Whiteside take the PK and score with 30 seconds remaining in the game. Despite giving up the lead the Tigers maintained their composure and got the W to improve their record to 4-1.

Tigers would be led by Junior Alexa Riddle who would have two goals on the night. Rachel Schlagel would have a goal and an assist likewise Lisette Whiteside would add a goal and an assist to help the Tigers to victory. On the defensive side of things Goldie Bougher would have a great day, having 4 clutch saves on the match.
"While the game was not our cleanest technically, the team exhibited a great deal of character and grit. This is the first we have had to grind out a result and it was encouraging to see the team respond. Goldie Bougher came up with 3 massive saves in the first half which helped keep us in the game and provide a little bit of momentum. I am excited to see just how well we can play when we are able to execute in all 4 moments of the game."

"And while the result is a reflection of the team's performance, KP and I want to call particular attention to Rachel Schlagel. Beyond scoring the opening goal, she was involved in 2 others and pushed past some fatigue to log a full 90 minutes." Tigers will be back in action next Friday in Chickasha, OK taking on another conference foe, USAO.

Go Tigers!
