Lady Tigers take on Bethany College in Season Opener

McPherson, Kansas – Coach Marc Golden and the Lady Tigers had their season opener against Bethany College at the Ed Pyle Sports Complex. Tigers came up short tonight as they drop the home opener 70-56.

Tigers would get into an early hole as the Swedes would hit back to back 3's to jump to a 6-0 deficit. Tania Lowe would finally get the Tigers on the board with a mid-range jump shot. Bethany would go on a 6-2 run to extend their lead to 12-4 before Tigers would take their first timeout. After the timeout Tigers would start to climb back in the game and end the first quarter on a 12 – 9 run to cut into the lead of the Swedes.

The Swedes got off to another good start over the Tigers opening the 2nd quarter on a 11-8 run to extend their lead to 32-24. The Tigers would respond with 2 three pointers on back to back possessions by Junior Shooting Guard Alison Kulesza to cut the Swede lead down to 2 points. Swedes would be able to respond by scoring on their next two possessions and shutting down the Tigers to hold a 39-30 lead going into halftime.

Swedes would come out of the half on fire going on another early run to start the quarter and extend their lead to double digits. Swedes would eventually cool off and the Tigers would grind out the quarter on a 9-1 run to be down by 10 points entering the final quarter. Unfortunately Tigers would go cold shooting in the forth as they wouldn't score in the first six minutes of the period and despite holding the Swedes to only 8 points in that time frame the Tigers would see their comeback further out of reach. Swedes would outscore the Tigers 19-15 in the final quarter to defeat the Tigers 70-56.

"For the game Tigers shot  32.3% from the field while the Swedes would shoot 44.9%. Tigers would make 8 3's despite not having a 3 in the 2nd half. Tiger would go 8 of 16 from the charity stripe and would collect 31 rebounds on the night.
We did some things very well but we also have many things to work on. We need to get more players actively rebounding, and more so that we can get our rebounding advantage up plus 8 or better yet plus 10, we will get much better. We are also looking forward to having our Junior transfer Destiny Broussard join us in our next game."

- Coach Marc Golden

Tigers will be back in action on October 26th when they host McPherson College in the Annual Mayor's Cup! Game time will be at 6:00 p.m. in the Ed Pyle Sports Complex.
