Sterling, Ks – The Central Christian College men's cross country team opened up their season this past weekend in Sterling, Kansas in the Warrior Fest, hosted by Sterling College.
The Tigers took five runners and were looking to have a strong showing as a team. Unfortunately during the race, one of the Tiger runners inadvertently left the designated race area and was disqualified. With only four runners, they were no longer eligible for a team score.
Individually, sophomore Joe Capuchino, who qualified for the NAIA national championships a year ago, paced the Tigers with a top ten finish. Joe ran a solid 28:15.90 in the 8K race to land him in the 8th position. Freshman Ethan Jennings had a nice outing in his first collegiate race. He finished just outside the top 10 in 11th with a time of 28:24.5, just two-tenths of a second behind the 10th place finisher. The other two Tigers in the pack were Darickson Gonzalez who was 18th in a time of 28:58.9, and Justin Castillo who ran 31:20.90 and finished in 28th place.
The Tigers will get just under two weeks of training in before their next race, September 22nd at Emporia State University.
