Tigers Take 1 of 4 from Southwestern Christian at Home

McPherson, Kan. - The Tiger Softball team returned to home action on Thursday and Friday against the Southwestern Christian University Eagles.

The Tigers thrived off of a big 3 run 5th inning to take game 1 of the series by a score of 3-1. Aryanna Palfy hit a rare inside the park homerun that brought across 2 on a ball that got past the eagles diving left fielder and rolled all the way to the fence. Ciara Valadez also  singled to right field to bring across that 3rd run. Clarissa Regino pitched great for the Tigers pitching all 7 innings on just 2 hits with the Eagles lone run being unearned.

In Game 2 the Tigers struggled to score and hurt themselves in the field with a couple critical errors. The Eagles brought 7 runs across but only 3 runs would go down as earned. In the bottom half of the 6th the Tigers got on the board with an Ashley Vaccaro solo homer and a Jaci Jeffers RBI double but could not rally in the 7th as the Eagles evened up the series with a 7-2 win.

In Game 3 the offense picked up big time for both teams. The Eagles scored 5 in the 2nd but the Tigers responded with 3 of their own on a Karmen De La Cruz 3 run homerun. The Tigers added 3 more in the 3rd and 1 in the 4th to go up 7-5 but the Eagles responded late in the game with a run in the 6th and 2 runs in the 7th down to their final out to regain the lead. The Tigers could not answer back in te he bottom half of the 7th as they dropped a tough one by a score of 8-7.

The Tigers got off to a great start in the series finale, the Eagles struck first in the opening inning but the Tigers exploded for 7 runs in the 3rd on a couple RBI singles, one of which drove in a pair, an RBI double, and a 3 run homerun from Abby Schleisman. The Eagles began to chip away from this point on while the Tigers failed to get some insurance runs, a run in the 4th and 5th innings followed by a 5 run Eagle 6th inning put the Tigers back down 2 runs in the 7th inning.  Ashley Vaccaro hit her 2nd homer of the series to get the Tigers within a run but could not come up with the equalizer as the Tigers dropped another tough game that looked like would be won by a score of 9-8.

The Tigers now sit at 12-26 (5-23) on the season going into their final road trip of the regular season against Texas Wesleyan University this weekend. The games will be available to watch on the SAC Sports Network and Urban Edge Network.
