Point Lookout, Mo. - The Tiger baseball team took on College of the Ozarks in Missouri this weekend looking for a series win after losing 2 of 3 to Oklahoma City University last weekend. Unfortunately the result would be the same as the Tigers were able to record a win but would lose the series to a talented Bobcats team.
Game 1 would be a complete pitcher duel, The Tigers and Bobcats traded a single run in the 3rd inning and the only other scoring in the game would take place in the final inning. Tigers starting pitcher
Justin Evasovic pitched a great game going 6 full innings, but the Tigers were held to just 1 hit and were unable to provide run support. In the bottom of the 7th, Evasovic went back out for the Tigers but the Bobcats would tag him for a walk off home run to right field and take game 1 of the series 2-1.
Game 2 of the series featured more scoring and the Tigers getting back into their groove at the plate. Ozarks notched 3 runs on Tigers started
Nick Julian early in the 2nd but the Tigers responded with 4 runs of their own in the 3rd on a
Kurt Ippolito RBI single and a 3 run homer from
Braedon Ulrich Julian settled in for 3 consecutive scoreless innings and then the Tigers scored 3 more runs in the 6th inning on a
Nico Lopez RBI double and a 2 RBI single from
Mason Bowden to take a 7-3 lead. The Bobcats would core just 1 more run on Julian in the 6th as he finished strong after the 2nd inning recording 10 strikeouts and was in line for the win.
Kurt Ippolito came in for the save in the 7th inning and got the job done as the Tigers took game 2 by a score of 7-4.
The Tigers entered game 3 with the momentum but began to struggle at the plate again. The Bobcats scored 5 runs in the game with only 2 being earned as the Tigers shot themselves in the foot with 3 errors. Meanwhile the Tigers were held scoreless through the first 8 innings of the game by the Bobcats starting pitcher who completed all 8 of the innings, the Tigers did put some pressure on in thr 6th inning but could not bring any runs across. In the 9th inning the Bobcats made a pitching change and the Tigers were able to start to string some stuff together, scoring a couple of runs and getting the tying run to the plate with 2 outs and runners on. But unfortunately the Tigers were unable to complete the rally as they dropped game 3 and the series by a score of 5-2.
The Tigers now sit at 7-11 overall and 2-4 in conference play and will be tested on the road again next weekend against the University of Science and Arts Drovers in Oklahoma, who sit just outside the NAIA top 25 at #30. The games will be streamed on the SAC Sports Network and Urban Edge Network.
