Game Recap: Baseball | | Tyler Swanson - Sports Information Director

Tigers Swept by Huston-Tillotson in Austin

Austin, Texas - It was a tough weekend for Tiger Baseball as they were unable to get a win over Huston-Tillotson in the four games they played. Coming off a mid-week loss to KWU, the Tigers looked to bounce back as they traveled to HTU.

Game 1 saw the Tigers start Nick Julian who went 5 innings giving up 4 runs on 5 hits and striking out 12 Rams. Offensively, the Tigers were only able to muster 3 hits in the game. Errors plagued both teams as there were a combined 8 errors in the game by both teams. The Tigers led 5-4 until the 7th when the Rams tied the game on a fielders choice and the Tigers pushed the game to the 8th. Unable to score in the top of the 8th, the Rams looked to walk it off in the bottom of the inning. After a walk, a passed ball and a throwing error, the Rams scored to win the game 6-5 and steal the first game of the series from the Tigers.

The next game was an offensive slugfest as 20 runs came across as the Rams won 11-9. The Tigers got the scoring started early as they were up 2-1 after 2 innings thanks to a Braedon Ulrich RBI single and a homerun by Samir Gonzalez in the 2nd inning. The Rams would strike back and explode for 6 runs in the 5th inning to take an 11-6 lead. The Tigers would score 3 in the 6th but could not push any more across and would fall in both games on Friday.

The Rams picked up right where they left off the previous day, opening the scoring with 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st to set the tone for the day. Offensive struggles continued as the Tigers only put up 1 run in the game. The Rams would go on to take game 3, 8-1.

It was much of the same story in the final game as the Tigers could not find their stride offensively, only plating 1 run as the Rams took advantage and won the final game, 9-1.

The Tigers (1-6), now look to Tabor College as they will travel to Hillsboro, Kansas to face the Bluejays for one game on February 11th. The game will be streamed on the Urban Edge Network and the KCAC Sports Network.
