McPherson, Kan. - The Central Christian College of Kansas softball team wrapped up a tough four-game series against Nelson University over the weekend, falling in all four contests.
The Tigers struggled to generate offense throughout the series, failing to score in the first three games. Game one ended in an 8-0 defeat, with Nelson's bats proving too powerful and their pitching too dominant for the Tigers to overcome. Game two followed a similar storyline, as Central Christian was shut out 4-0, despite some solid defensive stretches.
Game three brought another 8-0 loss, marking the third straight shutout of the series. However, the Tigers showed fight in the finale. Game four was a much closer contest, with Central Christian pushing Nelson to the edge in a narrow 2-1 defeat.
The lone run of the series for the Tigers came in the third inning of game four, when Ashley Vaccaro delivered a clutch single that brought in the tying run, making it 1-1 at the time. Unfortunately, Nelson would later respond with the go-ahead run to seal the sweep.
Now the Tigers turn their attention to a pair of makeup games against Wayland Baptist. The doubleheader is set for tomorrow in Oklahoma City, with first pitches scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. The Tigers also play McPherson College in the last installment of the Collegiate Cup on Wednesday, April 23rd at 4pm.
