McPherson, Kan. – The Tigers continued Conference play this weekend as they welcomed the University of Science and Arts Oklahoma Drovers to McPherson for a weekend series.
Game 1, L 17-6
There was no shortage of scoring in the first game as the Drovers of USAO got out to a 9-0 lead after 4 innings as they were able to string together multiple hits and draw walks. The Tigers were able to get on the board in the 4
th inning with an
Iker Muniz 2-run homerun. The Drovers would extend their lead to 15-2 in the 5
th and the
Bo Daniel would respond in the 5
th with a 3-run homerun to make the game 5-15.
Iker Muniz slugged his second homerun of the game in the 6
th inning. USAO would go on to win the game 17-6.
Game 2, W 6-4
Nick Julian got the call to start Game 2 of the series. Julian got into trouble in the 1
st, allowing 2 runs but then settled down. The Tigers tied the game in the third after a Drover error allowed two runs to score. Trailing 3-2 in the 4
th, the Tigers capitalized with runners in scoring position by scoring 3 runs to take a 5-3 lead in the game. The Tigers extended their lead to 6-3 in the 5
th after yet another Drover error. Julian remained strong despite allowing a run in the 6
th that cut the Tigers lead to 6-4. The Tigers would go on to win the game by this score after a scoreless 7
th inning and a complete game from
Nick Julian. Julian struck out 5, walked 5 and allowed 4 runs. After evening the series, the Tigers look to Saturday to take the series from USAO.
Game 3, L 14-7
Saturday presented an opportunity for the Tigers to take the series from the Drovers. USAO struck first after a towering homerun to take a 2-0 lead. The Tigers were unable to score until the 4
th inning when they cut the deficit in half. USAO tacked on one in the 5
th but the Tigers responded well, scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-3 lead into the 6
th inning. The Drovers would tally 4 more runs across the next two innings to retake the lead. The Tigers were down 7-6 in the 9
th when things unraveled. The Drovers tallied 7 runs in the inning to take a commanding 14-6 lead.
Braedon Ulrich launched a solo homerun in the bottom of the 9
th but that would be the lone bright spot in the inning as the Tigers fell 14-7 and dropped the series 2-1 to the Drovers.
Now the Tigers (15-25, 7-16), turn their attention to Randall University who they play on Tuesday, April 15
th at 4:00pm and 6:00pm in a doubleheader. It is also Senior Day as the Tiger Seniors will be honored prior to the first game. The games will be streamed on the SAC Sports Network.
