McPherson, Kan. – The Central Christian College Softball team was back in conference action as they welcomed Texas Wesleyan into town for a four game series.
Game 1, L 1-9
The opening game of the series saw
Madalyn Griffin get the start in the circle for the Tigers. The Rams jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after 2 innings. The Tiger bats were unable to get anything going until the 5
th inning.
Madalyn Griffin knocked in an rbi single to get the Tigers on the board. The Rams would take the first game 9-1 in 5 innings.
Game 2, L 2-10
The Tigers hoped to turn their fortune around in the second game of the day.
Miranda Tegtmeier was tagged for four runs early in the first inning as the Rams picked up where they left off. The Tigers would claw back in the first and second innings after a single and an error netted two runs to cut the deficit to 4-2. The Rams would tack on 6 runs across the next 3 innings to take a 10-2 lead and would go on to win the game by this score.
Game 3, L 1-8
Turning their focus to the final two games on Saturday, the Tigers looked to get their bats going. The Rams would start the scoring with a two rbi triple in the first inning to give them a 2-0 lead. Despite getting runners into scoring position multiple times, the Tigers were unable to push a run across until the 6
th inning after
Paige Major knocked a single through the middle which plated one and the second run was thrown out at the plate on a good throw from the outfield. The Rams would go on to take game 3 by a score of 8-1.
Game 4, L 17-6
Looking to salvage the final game in the series, the Tigers started
Chelsie Hirtler in the circle and each offense was relatively quiet until the 3
rd inning. Ahead 2-0, the Rams poured on 8 runs on 9 hits in the inning. Now behind 10-0, the Tigers responded with a big inning of their own in the bottom of the 3
rd. After two hits and a hit by pitch, the Tigers found themselves with the bases loaded. A error and a fielder's choice plated 2 runs. After a double and a single, four more runs came across to score. The Rams lead was now just 10-6. The Rams would respond by putting the game out of reach in the 5
th inning, scoring 7 runs on 8 hits to lead 17-6. The Rams would go on to win the game by this score and sweep the series.
The Tigers (2-18, 0-12), head back to Oklahoma to face Langston University this weekend. The games will be streamed live on the SAC Sports Network.
