Rogers, Ark. – The Central Christian College of Kansas Baseball Team was back in action this past weekend as they were set to take on Dordt and Peru State twice across two days in a round robin type format. The games had to be moved to Rogers, Arkansas due to weather in McPherson.
Game 1, L 5-0
The Tigers faced Peru State to open the weekend with Nick Clayson getting the start on the mound. Peru State struck first with a run in the 2
nd inning. The Bobcats would tack on 4 more in the 4
th inning. Clayson would last 3 1/3 allowing four runs on three hits while walking three and striking out one. The Tiger bats were quiet as they could muster only three hits in the game. The Bobcats would go on to win the game 5-0.
Game 2, W 3-1
After a break, the Tigers played their second game of the day against Dordt University. The Tiger offense found it's rhythm as
Bo Daniel hit a solo homerun to start the scoring. The Tigers would follow that up in the next inning with a
Kurt Ippolito double that plated a run to give them a 2-0 lead. In the 4
th inning, the Tigers would add a 3
rd run after a sacrifice fly to extend their lead. This would be all starter
Nick Julian would need to help the Tigers get their first win of the weekend. Julian threw a gem, going 7 innings, striking out 13 batters while only allowing 1 run on 4 hits and walking no one.
Game 3, L 10-2
Saturday was just as cold and dreary as the day before but the boys were still excited to play baseball. Central started off their Saturday facing Dordt and the Defenders started the game off with a leadoff homerun. They would strike in the next inning to extend their lead to 2-0. Starter
Quentin Fears would be done after 2 innings as the Defender bats stayed hot. Brayden Young came on in relief for the Tigers, throwing three innings allowing three runs and striking out three. The Tiger bats again had trouble waking up as they plated just two runs on two hits with one of those being a homerun by
Cody Campos in the 7
th inning.
Game 4, L, 10-4
The weather continued to do the teams no favors as it got colder and continued to drizzle. The scoring got started quick as each team plated two runs in the first inning. The Tigers struck for back to back homeruns by
Kurt Ippolito and
James Perales. The Tigers took the lead in the 3
rd on a
Braedon Ulrich RBI single. Peru State responded by scoring 5 runs in the 4
th inning to take a 7-3 lead. The Tigers fight back would be unsuccessful as they would go on to lose the game 10-4.
The 1-3 weekend by the Tigers moves their season record to 7-8 on the young season. The Tigers are due to start conference play at home this weekend against Oklahoma Panhandle State but with the recent snow and bad weather, it could be adjusted. Stay tuned as we will announce any changes on our social media pages and update the website with proper times and location.
