Waxahachie, Texas - Central Christian Women's Basketball ran into a hot-shooting Nelson University squad on Saturday afternoon, falling 104–56 on the road in Waxahachie, Texas. The Tigers move to 4–4 overall and 0–2 in Sooner Athletic Conference play, while Nelson improves to 5–1, 1–1 SAC.
After trailing 24–12 after the first quarter, Central responded with its best stretch of the day to open the second. Sparked by Kylee Jones, the Tigers put together an 11–0 run capped by back-to-back threes from Jones to trim the deficit to 26–23, and 3 assists from Chloe Clevenger in the stretch. Nelson answered at the free throw line and in transition to push the lead back to 46–33 at the half, then broke the game open with a 32–14 third quarter.
Jones led Central with 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Mia Kittner added 9 points on three triples, while Charmayne Marshall scored 8 points and tied for the team lead with 3 steals. Central knocked down 10 three-pointers on the afternoon but could not overcome Nelson's 54.2 percent shooting from the field, school record 32-of-37 performance at the foul line, and a 42-18 advantage in the rebounding battle.
Central Christian is back on the floor Monday in an exhibition game against NCAA Division II Newman University at 5:30 p.m., and will have its first home conference game against nationally ranked, SAC-leading Langston University on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The game will be streamed on the Urban Edge Network.
