Tigers Rally Late But Fall Short at Nelson University

Central Christian came up short on the road Saturday night, falling 73-65 to Nelson University in a competitive non-conference matchup in Texas.

The Tigers battled well early but struggled to find consistent scoring in the first half, shooting just 37.5 percent from the field and 15.4 percent from three as they trailed 33-29 at the break. Despite the slow start offensively, Central remained within striking distance thanks to strong defensive effort and solid rebounding.

Central regrouped in the second half and put together a much more efficient offensive performance, knocking down 50 percent of their shots and converting at an 80 percent clip from the free-throw line. However, Nelson matched Central's surge and slowly extended its advantage, outscoring the Tigers 40-36 over the final 20 minutes to secure the victory.

Chris Whitten led the Tigers with a strong performance, scoring 23 points while adding eight rebounds and a steal. Jaeden Whitten also made an impact with 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists, while forward Travis King gave Central a lift inside, posting 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting along with a team-high 10 rebounds and three assists.

Rebounding and defensive grit kept Central in the game, but offensive miscues and early cold shooting proved costly. Nelson capitalized on turnovers and transition opportunities, building key leads that the Tigers could not fully erase despite their second-half push.

The Tigers move to 5-3,0-2 SAC on the year and continue SAC play against Langston University at home on Wednesday, November 26th. Tip off is set for 6pm and the game will be streamed on the Urban Edge Network.
