McPherson, Kan. - The Central Christian College of Kansas Women's Volleyball team was back in action yesterday as they faced Mid-America Christian University in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Central Christian College of Kansas found themselves playing from behind early as Mid-America Christian opened the match with a 3-0 run and later built a 14-6 advantage, fueled by a strong stretch at the net. The Tigers capitalized on a couple of MACU errors to cut the deficit, briefly slowing the Evangels' momentum. However, CCCK struggled to string together sustained offense, and the gap widened to 23-12 following a tough attack error. Despite pushing to extend the set, the Tigers couldn't hold off a late surge, falling 25-14 on a kill down the right side.
The Tigers matched MACU point-for-point through the opening rallies, but a costly stretch turned the tide. A series of attack errors and a setting miscue allowed the Evangels to string together an 8-0 run and take an 11-3 lead. CCCK momentarily halted the run with a forced error, but another 12-point streak by MACU proved too much to overcome. Alysa Johnson broke through with a kill to stop the bleeding at 23-5, but the Evangels closed the set shortly after, taking it 25-5.
In the most competitive set of the match, Central Christian battled to a 7-7 tie and remained neck-and-neck with the Evangels through the first 14 points. However, MACU managed to gain separation with a 7-2 run, pushing ahead 14-9. The Tigers responded with side-outs to stay within striking distance, but a late run by the Evangels extended the gap to match point at 24-15. CCCK showed grit by fending off two match points, but a final kill from MACU closed the set 25-17 and the match in straight sets.
