Sioux City, Iowa - The men's soccer team travelled to Iowa to take on the defending GPAC champions, Briar Cliff University on Friday Afternoon. Johnny Rodriguez's penalty shot in the 81st minute was the decider in the closely played match.Â
Marco Cherchi started off the scoring with a goal assisted by Joan Muncharaz in the 22nd minute of the 1st half. Briar Cliff came out aggressive in the game with 4 shots on goal to start the game, and their offensive pressure resulted in the equalizer by Antoni Llull Plomer at the 41st minute of the 1st half . Briar Cliff stayed aggressive throughout with 19 shots at goal to the Tigers 4. Â
A foul in the box resulted in a penalty kick for Johnny Rodriguez and he scored to give the Tigers the lead, 2-1 in the 81st minute. Briar Cliff was able to get 2 shots at goal, both saved by Timothy Foster, including a big save by Foster with 15 seconds remaining in play.Â
The Tigers play next today against Mount Marty University in Yankton, SD. Kickoff is scheduled for 4pm, and can be seen on the Mount Marty Sports Network. Â
