McPherson, Kan. - Coach Macharia pulled a rabbit out of his hat for the Collegiate Cup game vs. McPherson College Tuesday Evening. Starting Forward Celina Vanhaezebrouck was moved to Goal Keeper and was a brick wall stopping all 10 shots that McPherson took, getting her 1
st win at goal of the season leading the Tigers to a 1-0 win.
The 1
st half saw the Tigers get hit with some injuries, which resulted in them playing at a 10-11 person disadvantage. This did not deter the Tigers from controlling the ball and attacking the goal, resulting in 4 corner kicks, and near goal late in the 1
st half, as
Kaye Harrison just missed. This set the tone of how the Tigers would attack the 2
nd half, as
Kaye Harrison would get another chance at Goal, later in the game. In a 12 minute stretch the Bulldogs would get 6 shots at goal all saved by Vanhaezebrouck. A steal by
Sophia Cook, led to
Baylee Smith directing traffic down the field with a great lead back to Cook, who looked like she was going to shoot, and delivered a beautiful pass to
Kaye Harrison who scored the goal, to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead, which would be the deciding goal as the Tigers improved their record to 3-3 on the season, and the Bulldogs fell to 0-4.
The Tigers do not have much time to celebrate the huge win as they will be traveling to play 2 games this weekend. They will play Briar Cliff on Friday with a noon kickoff, which can be seen on the GPAC Network, and Mount Marty on Saturday with a 3pm kickoff, and that game can be seen on the Mount Marty Sports Network.
