Game Recap: Softball |

Tigers Struggle Offensively on the Road at TXWES

Fort Worth, Texas – The Central Christian College Softball team was in action this past weekend for a four game series against the Texas Wesleyan University Rams down in Fort Worth, Texas. The games were originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday, but two days of rain in Texas, forced the games to be moved to Sunday and Monday.

The Tigers ended up going 1-3 against a much improved TXWES team. All three losses were one run ball games. All weekend, the Tigers struggled to get hits, and especially hits in critical situations. While the Tiger pitching was superb in all four games, the offense provided them with very little support. In all, the Tiger offense put up six runs on 16 hits. In the first three games of the series, in which they lost, they manage only three runs on seven hits. The bats did finally wake up in the series finale. They finished the series winning game four, 3-1, scoring their three runs on nine hits.

On day one of the series, the Tigers lost both games in the bottom of the seventh inning on a walk-off by the Rams. In the series opener, the game was 0-0 through six and a half innings before the Rams were able to get one run in the bottom of the seventh to win. In game two, the Tigers jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the second inning. The Rams tied the game with a pair of runs in the fifth, before walking if off again in the bottom of the seventh.

Game three on Monday was almost identical to the first game of the series. The game was 0-0 through six and a half innings and then the Rams pushed a run across in the bottom of the seventh to walk it off. In the finale, the tide finally turned for the Tigers, but it didn't turn until last in the game. The score was 0-0 through five innings. The Tigers broke the scoreless tie with a two RBI double off the bat of Halee Wallin. Then in the top of the seventh, they got another insurance run on an RBI single by Destiny Holt that scored Payton Rice. The Rams tried to make it four walk off wins in a row, but they were only able to score one run. Sara Lynch was brilliant in the circle, picking up a much needed win. She went the distance, allowing just one run on five hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

Coaches Quote: "Pitchers Madalyn (Griffin), Kayla (Voss), Chelsie (Hirtler), and Sara (Lynch) all pitched complete games giving up just 6 ER in four games, defense was solid but we didn't give them the run support to capture the wins we should have." – Coach Balbin

Next Up: The Tigers are now 9-14 overall, and 2-10 in SAC play. They will be back in action this weekend in a four game series at home against Langston University. Friday's double header starts at 3:30. On Saturday the two teams will resume play at 12:00 pm.
